Legal Question in Insurance Law in California

my insurance as driver and other person as owner

I had a car accident a year ago in which they said it was my fault. The claimant tried to get all the money from the insurance, but i guess is not satisfied and wants more and his lawyer decided to file a lawsuit against me the driver and my partner because he is the owner. The insurance said they will take care of it. Does my parner needs a lawyer to cover his part of the lawsuit? what should i do?

Re: my insurance as driver and other person as owner

The owner is only liable for statutory minumums, unlike the driver. Is it his or your insurance which is handling it. It sounds like it is his, and you are not an excluded driver. If you are, then you won't be covered but he will. If you have your own insurer, notify it immediately.

But it sounds from your description that the insurer is going to handle both of you, and you should see if your partner is mentioned in the letter from them or if he got a separate one. If not, clear it up now.
