Legal Question in Insurance Law in California

liability waivers for film shoots

I am working on a small, low budget video production. My client cannot afford general liability insurance to cover equipment, injury, etc. As risky as this is, we still need to proceed, so I was wondering if a ''liability waiver,'' signed by all performers and participants, would at least partially protect us in the case of an injury. I want to avoid accidents, but I also want to avoid getting sued for any injuries or accidents that might occur. Is there any sort of document that would help or hold up in this type of situation? Thank you for your time and effort, and for any information you could give me.

Re: liability waivers for film shoots

Consider making all the participants employees and buying w/c insurance. Then that would be the exclusive remedy.

If someone involved has a CGL consider endorsing the "production" entity onto it. That should not cost very much. And increase/create a SIR.

Liability waivers will be and are very strictly construed and are a real gamble.

The foregoing is really less expensive if something does happen. A knowledgeable insurance broker is what you need.
