Legal Question in Intellectual Property in California

Need Advice on Sports Licensing

I am currently in the process of starting a sports website. I would love to be able to show clips and highlights of past games as a feature. How would I go about obtaining written consent from the NFL and other sports leagues to give me permission to show them on my site? How difficult do you believe it would be? And will I need a lawyer to represent me or is it something that I can do individually? Thank you in advance everyone!

A lawyer would be helpful, since copyrights for sports and entertainment properties are licensed through third-party clearance services.

Your best bet is to retain an attorney but licensing clip rights would be an expensive proposition if at all likely. The NFL, MLB, NBA etc. are very protective, have exclusive deals and charge a lot of money if they permit clip usage at all. But if you have a significant funds it's worth the try.
