Legal Question in Intellectual Property in California

I am a American Indian dj who has a really good collection of Indian music. Their are many albums made from artists that are in India. Is it legal if I wanted to make a compilation album, meaning taking what I think are good songs, and putting them together on an album, for example calling it a album like INdian dance songs, and sell it then?

You will have to check international law, but I'm pretty sure that is copyright infringement under US law and under the Berne Convention.

"Legal"? If you comply with the copyright laws regarding the rights of the artists, to avoid you being sued, and to protect your own compilation work, then sure, its 'legal'. Can you just steal artists works for your profit? No.
