Legal Question in Intellectual Property in California

I broke my hip in april 2011, and my son who was out of work (24 yrs old) came and stayed until october 2011 to help me out. I just was delivered a court document saying my IP address downloaded movies illegally on my IP address thru comcast.. and that they will settle for 3500.00? Is there anything I can do. I have two computers, a desktop and laptop. I was not aware he was doing anything moreless, illegal. They are attempting to get comcast to release all my personal data? I am on disability, and sure don't have 3500. altho I own my home, but it is homestead. He is 25 now and in Texas. what can I do? When I contacted them I was told I needed an Intelectual ? Lawyer, so I'm guessing at type of lawyer.
