Re: own the club name

It is not clear from your question whether you mean "club" as an organization or as a venue.

If you are using the name of the club in commerce (which, in trademark terms, means advertising across state lines in business), you can apply for a federal trademark. If you are using the name in business only within the state of California, you may be able to trademark it in California. This all depends, of course, on whether someone else has applied first for the same type of business.

A trademark attorney should be able to help you.

File a trademark. You can file in in California or federally. There are filing fees and if you use an attorney, attorney fees will be around $500.

Re: own the club name

Assuming that the rights to this name are yours, as opposed to some other entity's, then it's a matter of filing a trademark application. Whether to file on the state or federal level -- there's a significant cost difference -- is something a California intellectual property attorney can assist you in determining. Please contact me if you would like to proceed at affordable flat fee rates.
