Legal Question in Intellectual Property in California

intellectual property-default storage sale

I purchased mystery boxes at a default storage sale which contained personal photos of a celebrity. I would like to sell these photo albums on eBay but worry about Intellectual Property infringement. I know I own them, but can I post copies of the pictures on my auctions? I do not know who took the pictures, but I do know this is a well known celebrity.

Re: intellectual property-default storage sale

In general, one can sell photographs printed on paper, but cannot make copies without copyright or a license. Posting digital copies on eBay would violate the copyright, even if sale of the printed versions would not, and even though the purpose is merely to show the photographs for sale.
