If someone else used my IP address on my computer to download illegal pornographic movies can I be held responsible and a lawsuit filed against me for it?

I's likely a shakedown lawsuit, where it costs you more to prove your lack of liability than to settle, so many people just pay. It is unfortunate, but I dont know if there is anything you can do. You may try to find an attorney who has defended multiple of these. I have defended one. Sometimes you can prove it wasnt you easily, and make a lowball offer to settle and resolve it.

There is a particular bunch that is filing John Doe lawsuits out of Northern California and in my opinion these are beatable. Many clients need this particular type of matter handled on a highly confidential basis. Please feel free to call and discuss.
