Legal Question in Intellectual Property in California

I plan to contact literary agents using a pseudonym. I've read that it's very difficult to keep the publishing company and fans from finding out who you are. I know I'm getting ahead of myself, but I want to make sure that my very risque work is not connected with my identity. Do some people submit to agents through a publishing attorney? Is this something that could fall under their scope of practice? Thanks for your time.
