protecting intellectual property

i have an idea that i would like to network to other individuals and companies. how do i protect this idea from being used by others?

This is usually done within nondisclosure agreement. You have an attorney make up a contract which you can use as a form. Before you reveal any confidential information, you fill up the form and have been signed its acknowledging that they are receiving confidential information and that they are promising to keep it confidential in the event that your networking with them does not result in some sort of business deal.
