Legal Question in Intellectual Property in California

Hello, thank you for reading my email.

I am not looking to patent a product but instead looking to safeguard or protect an idea that i have to help that product sell . for example if i were to sell an idea to a company that sells their product in packets of 18 and they all look identical.

The idea would be to number the items 1 through 18 so that you could tell them apart by the number. hopefully you can understand what i am looking for? So what type of patent or protection rights would i be needing to get?

THank you so much

Unfortunately, you can't patent an idea in the abstract. Try this. Google [business methods patent]

I am very familiar with this issue. While you cannot patent an idea, there is a lot of law that protects ideas, such as when you propose an idea to a company, if done properly, such as through a knowledgeable attorney. If you would like to discuss having me submit an idea for you, please send me an email.
