Legal Question in Intellectual Property in California

Can i use stock photos in direct mail piece if i purchase the rights to them? On sites like iStockPhoto if i search for "Google" or other company names it brings it up logo's and other images that have logo's within them available for license.

Since i will pay for to use the photo does that mean it's ok? Again this will be a licensed stock photo that i have paid for.

Any thoughts or feedback?

It would depend upon what the license says about uses. If there are limitations on use (such as where the image can be used and how often), the license should say so. For example, if It says you can use the photo in a direct mail piece in exchange for a certain license fee, then it would be okay. It might also say you can use the image one time or multiple times, so be sure you understand all of this before you send out your mailing. If there's no language about your intended use in the license, be sure to ask and get the answer in writing from an authorized person. There are likely different license fees for different uses.
