Legal Question in Employment Law in California

My boss is attempting to cut my pay...

My boss is attempting to cut my pay. I receive about $10K a year more any other employee at my level. My apy is the only salary being cut. I have not recieved any negative evaluations, but my work load has been lessened with the addition of another person.

Does the boss have the right to do this?

Re: My boss is attempting to cut my pay...

I am sorry to advise that unless you have a contract for a designated wage, your employer can reduce your compensation at will. Furthermore, since your duties have reduced this would appear to be appropriate. However, it is not appropriate to reduce an employees wages and only one employees wages if it was done based on an illegal reason, such as your race, gender, refusing sexual advances, reporting illegal conduct, etc... Should you think the reduction in your income was based on an illegal reason, I suggest you contact an attorney in your area or our office to discuss further.

Best of luck.
