Legal Question in Employment Law in California

Does a Contractor have the right to stop a paycheck? I was able to cash it yesterday only to find out today the check was stopped, and now i owe the full amount, I spent most of the money on bills already. Does he have rhe right to do that, only because he didnt like my work, I said I could fix any details he didnt like but he decided to not pay me.

That depends on whether it was an actual paycheck, or if he's paying you as an independent contractor. It is very illegal to stop payment for not liking the work. It is legal to stop payment to a contractor. If he is paying you as a contractor, however, it gets really complicated. He may be illegally paying an employee as an independent contractor. On the other hand, if you really are an independent contractor, he has no obligation to pay you anything if you don't have your own license. Bottom line is that you aren't going to get a reliable answer on the web.
