Legal Question in Employment Law in California

Can an employeer make you work on a saturday even if you have officially notified all proper indivudals because of religious reasons ? I am a manager with a company I have been here 2 1/2 years and I have become religious and I do not work saturdays anymore. The company has an inventory coming at the end of this month and I was informed that I need to be there it is manditory. What are my legal rights ?

The company cannot compel you to attend (or take retaliatory action against you for your refusal to attend based on religious belief) and must attempt to accommodate you and your beliefs unless such accommodations would result in an undue hardship on the company's business. What constitutes "reasonable accommodation" and "undue hardship" must be determined on a case-by-case basis, but the law is generally interpreted to protect the employee. Please give me a call at (213) 381-6557 or send me an email at [email protected] if you would like to discuss the matter further.

All the best,

Ari
