Legal Question in Employment Law in California

My employer asked me to work overtime. The next day I was told I could take off early and after payroll was submitted she deducted the overtime from my check. It showed as a minus amount on my paystub. The same employer will take overtime worked by an employee out of the managers wage. Legal?
