Legal Question in Employment Law in California

My job classificatioin has changed and I can no longer work the position Employer is asking me for a letter of resignation. Is this legal?

It's perfectly legal for them to ask, but you are under no obligation to give it to them. If you want to be able to collect unemployment you need to make them fire you.
