Legal Question in Employment Law in California

I live in CA, and looking to switch from current CA "at-will" employer to another in CA (which I don't know if at-will only), how can I make the switch in employers and protect myself at the same time or does CA ONLY allow for at-will employment. I would like to approach prospective employer I would switch to with long term contract of 2+ years of employment.

Employees in CA are at-will UNLESS they have a written contract in which the employer agrees to employ the employee for a set period of time. Retain an employment law attorney to review or draft any employment contract to make sure it protects you.

Kristine is exactly right. At-will is the default. The employer and employee are free to agree otherwise. Generally, however, employers rarely if ever agree to anything but at-will except for the very highest ranking employees, generally "C" level.

You are completely free to look for new employment and try to negotiate any terms of employment you want. Good luck. You can quit anytime you like, just as the employer can terminate you anytime they like. That's what at will means.
