Re: unpaid invoice

If you were an employee, you could file a claim with the Labor Board. As an independent contractor, you still have the option of filing a small claims lawsuit. The filing fee is only about $20 and you can have the Court serve it by certified mail for $8 or by the Sheriff for $30.

Re: unpaid invoice

Send out a legal demand letter, and if that is ineffective, take the person at issue to small claims court promptly thereafter. If you would like further assistance, contact us directly.

Re: unpaid invoice

Hi,

Your best bet would probably be to use the small claims court. However, the filing fees might take up more of the $150 he owes you then it is worth.

Also, you should consider the effect of bringing suit against someone you may want to maintain a business relationship with in the future; albeit with a better "paper trail" (invoices, etc.) to help avoid such disputes in the future.

Hope this helps.
