Depending on the size of the employer, and the length of time you have been employed, you are entitled to intermittent leave under the Family Medical Leave Act and the California Family Rights Act, and you cannot be retaliated against because you exercise those rights. It sounds like you are being threatened as a direct result of your time off work for the doctor's appointment. How long have you been employed by this employer? There are many other factors to consider in your question as well. Fair Employment and Housing Act may apply to your situation as well, which prohibits discrimination, harassment and retaliation based on a physical disability, which is defined in the statute. You are wise to ask these questions, and know your rights in the workplace.
