Legal Question in Employment Law in California

I work for a church as the secretary. I recently had a job performance review. On the review form, there was a category entitled "Worship Support" and, in the review, it was noted, "does not take interest in worship" in the negative column. This has NEVER been a job requirement for this position. Is such a statement even legal or does it step over the boundaries of my right to choose? I might add, that when I interviewed for this job 2 years ago, I made it clear that I would not be attending church services at this church. Thank you.

Churches are exempt from the employment discrimination laws, and can enforce religious requirements on employees. You don't like it, you can leave.
