Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

I have my 30 day notice yesterday under civil code 1942, because of damages that have not been corrected. He is now trying to rectify the situation by calling me repeatedly to come take a look at it.

My question is, can he sue me for back rent because he tried contacting me to "fix" it ?

I assume you mean that you gave the landlord official notice of something wrong with the unit and that you would fix it if he did not, substracting up to one month's rent for actual expenses. If you prevent the landlord from fixing the problem then you have no legal right to substract any sum you pay. His merely contacting you is not an effort to fix the problem, but how do you know that he would not fix it if you will not let him see it?
