Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

Attempt to break lease due to harassment

I have recently received harassing text messages on my cell phone. The harassers know my exact address and apartment number. I am afraid for my safety and the safety of my 4 yr old daughter because these people have identified themselves as gangmembers. My lease is month-to month, but I was given a $100 discount if I occupied the apartment for 6 months. I was also told that if I vacated the apartment before the 6 months were up, I would have to pay $100 for each month that I resided there. I need to know how I can vacate the apartment without have to pay the $500. Any help you can provide me with would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.

Who cares what the cost is! If you're being harassed by gangmembers, to to the FBI, the LAPD and get the hell out of your apartment. If you have no written lease you don't have to pay for anything. Just leave and go the FBI and LAPD.
