Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

Getting Charged penalties on rent

Hi

My rent is due on the 1st of the month and my landlady charges a 10% late fee if it is not in her mailbox on the 4th. Is this unreasonable? I thought legally a renter has till the 5th of each month to pay their rent.

Re: Getting Charged penalties on rent

Technically, it is due on the first, late on the sixth day of the month. Additionally, that late fee may well be excessive.
