Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

Criminal Behavior By Manager

I have six months left on my lease but I would like to move NOW as in addition to being harrassed by the manager for a different issue, he is looking into my apartment windows, including my bedroom, while I am in bed, at 1:30am. He has done this to other tenants and one woman has pictures of him doing it.

Would this be the loophole I need to get out of this lease and move!? I'm scared.

Re: Criminal Behavior By Manager

The behavior you describe is illegal sexual harassment. If you can, take a picture yourself so you have some proof. Whether or not you do this, you should consult an attorney or a fair housing agency, such as Project Sentinel. You can also file a complaint with the Calif. Dept. of Fair Employment & Housing or with the U.S. Dept of Housing & Urban Development.

Any sensible landlord would let you out of the lease in return for an agreement not to sue.

Re: Criminal Behavior By Manager

As stated, the conduct by your landlord is definitely out of line. If you have evidence of what has been taking place, you should have very solid grounds for getting out of the lease if not for further action against the landlord and/or the complex.

This is general information that I hope has been helpful to you. However, you should always obtain legal counsel familiar with your specific circumstances. We may be able to assist you with your legal issues. If we can assist you in the future, please contact us at www.unalaw.com and somebody will assist you as soon as possible.
