Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

Deposit Situation

What can i do about my former Landlord/Apartments. i recentley moved and i gave a 30 day notice and fallowed the rules. i cleaned the apartment for 2 days. i even hired someone to help me which took two 8 hour days. To my understanding they have to return my depost within 3 weeks of my lastday. it has been a month now and the landlord keeps giving excuses about she sent the info to ''Corporate''. She wouldnt give me the phone number to ''Corp'' and she never calls me back like she says she will. i have been calling for 2 weeks. 1 week after i left to check on the progress and this last week because it was due Aug 13. I have left my forwarding address 3 times. the place was spotless. i dont expect a 100% return but i have a feeling they are going to take it out on me by huge deductions if they find out i am seeking leagal aid. I live in City San Jose Ca. i called numerous leagal aid services in my county for a week. all numbers are disconected or i get voice mail and my call doesnt get returned....just like my landlord. is fruturating and im ready to fight back this time. i just need to know what i can do to fight correctley

Re: Deposit Situation

Seems like small claims court would be your recourse. You would also get back your court fees and costs for serving the complaint. Make sure to name the owner as one of the defendants.
