Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

I let a (now ex) friend stay without a lease in the house I'm renting in San Francisco, Ca. She paid some rent the first couple months (June and a small part of July) then stopped. In August I asked her to leave by oct 1 and she verbally agreed. All of Sept she pretended to look for a place but there was no sign of packing, and she kept bringing more stuff into the house. How can I kick her out without trouble? thank you

Unfortunately, you have inadvertently become one of the most downtrodden miserable creatures on earth, a San Francisco Landlord. You now have to follow all the rules and laws that apply to San Francisco landlords trying to get rid of tenants, even including the onerous rules that apply if you try to offer money for them to leave. Since you're living in the same space, a lot of the rules are eased, but there are still a lot of SF Rent Ordinance rules and hoops you will have to navigate and jump through if you need to take legal action to remove her. You're going to need more legal help than an internet Q&A service can provide.
