Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

My husband and I and our adult daughter want to lease a house together. We need all three of our incomes to afford the payment. If something happens to one of us, death or serious illness, and we lose an income will the others still be responsible to pay the lease?

Yes. The tenants in a lease are jointly and severally liable. Basically you are all responsible for paying the entire amount of rent. If one of the tenants fails to pay for whatever reason, even if it is because they have died, that issue is between the tenants. The landlord is entitled to the full rent.
