Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

Our landlord changed his pet policy midway through our lease. We are renting a house for a year. The contract stated we could have pets, and now he says it needs to go. We also payed twice the deposit for having a pet. Is this legal?

NO. He can change the lease only when it's up for renewal. Also, a double deposit for a pet is only legal if the total deposit is under 2x monthly rent. If he charged more deposit than that, it was illegal.
