Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

My landlord has decided to repair the stairs that lead up to our apartment. He just gave us a letter on 4/14 stating that the repairs will start on 4/23 and that we will not have access to our apartment for 10-14 days. Is he by law required to pay for a place for us to stay during that time or to set us up in another place to stay as we have nowhere else to go at this time.

Since he is preventing you from using your rented unit he has to provide for reasonable accommodations during the time that he does so. Your rental agreement provides for your being able to have the peaceful enjoyment of the unit and he is temporarily preventing that so he has to pay for that breach.

By the way, with the exception of a palace, how does it take 10-14 days to repairs a stairway?
