What is the law regarding moving
tenants out of your property when
you want to move a family member
in? I'm the landlord, do I have to
move in personally, or can my adult
son qualify as he is immediate family
and wishes to attend college in the
area. I have serious problems with
these tenants and want them out as
quickly as possible. I know I'll face a
problem with a 3 day or quit notice.
They have illegal tenants living there
with them and they'll ''squat'' in my
property as long as they can get
away with it. I can't afford to lose
any more rent because of them, so I
want their eviction completed in an
expedient manner and have been
told they will have to leave if I want
to move in to my property. I believe
it used to be any family member that
qualified, is that still true?

If they are behind with the rent, 3 day notice to pay or quit.

What is an "illegal" tenant?

Whatever you were told, you still have to evict properly, and that means notice plus an unlawful detainer.
