Re: lease responsibility

Your landlord isn't responsible for disputes between you and your roommate. If you signed the lease, then you are responsible until either the lease is terminated (by your roommate moving out) or the landlord expressly relieves you from your liability on the lease. If it took two of you to qualify for the apartment, don't expect the landlord to let you off the hook for the lease simply because you and your roommate couldn't get along. Contact the landlord, advise him of what has transpired, and ask for a written release from the lease agreement. If he refuses, there really isn't much you can do about it. As a co-lessee, however, you can insist that your roommate let you move back in.
