Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

I live in an apartment complex in San Diego, CA and they want to do renovations in my apartment between 8am – 5pm, for 5 days. This is to re due the pluming for their upcoming cosmetic remodel. I received a notice 2 week before the planed work. I'm in a single studio apartment unit and have been living here for 10 months out of my 12 month lease. The leasing office said “You and your pet will not be able to be in the apartment on the first day between 8am – 5pm”. My dogs are on the lease. For the remaining four days they said “There will be a lot of activity happening in your home during the day”. They said “You can sleep in your home every night”. I work nights and this is impossible for me because I get my sleep in the day. I have an extremely tight budget and can’t afford to board the dogs or get a motel anywhere. I have always paid rent on time plus and extra $100 for the pets each month. Is this legal for them to make me leave my home to remodel without giving me any kind of credit or paying for a hotel/motel?

They have to provide you with an alternate place to live. I suggest speaking with a tenant rights advocate in your area to make the landlord comply.
