If there is major water damage due to rain inside a home and the landlord has sufficient amount of time to fix the problem, is the landlord responsible for the damage in the unit as well as the furniture?

Your question is too unclear to answer. Sufficient time to fix what problem? Sufficient time from when? What damage in the unit? What furniture? Belonging to whom? Those are just a few of the things that are imposible to tell from your question that would be needed to answer it.
