Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

hello, so my question is as follows. . i stayed at a friends girlfriends house for the month of oct which was supposed to cost 400$ but she thinks im trying to skip out on the rent so she said she is going to take me to court, she talks all this bad stuff behind my back and is calling me racist things and just talking very bad about me, she sent me a threatening text message that could be a threat to me or to my father( he was going to be the guarantee of rent) well she said in a text (i have saved) if we dont pay her she will take us to court and knows people who would F*** me and my father up over 20$ so just imagine what theyd do over 400$ anyways, i signed no contract or paperwork saying i would pay, if she tries to take me to court, will she have a case or should i just show the judge that text message? please help asap

When it comes to real estate, a writing is a must. If you do not have any writing to prove you are the tenant, then you have no obligation to pay. On the other hand, if this thing goes to court, you would have to pay her some amount which the court determines a reasonable price since you lived there for a month and unjustly enriched if you will not share some rent. How much weight the message will carry is up to the judge.
