Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

Recently my girlfriend and I, who signed a 12 month lease at an apartment complex with an additional housemate, broke up and upon breaking up, I had to call the police because she began breaking my stuff, throwing my stuff out the door, and hitting me. I filed a police report but did not press any charges. She is now saying that she continues to expect me to pay the same amount of rent share I've been paying while I was living there even though she was the one who kicked me out. I don't feel safe living there anymore so that's out of the question in my mind. Do I have any legal recourse? I don't think it's fair that I should have to pay the same amount given the situation. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

She is correct, your legal obligation to pay does not stop just because she "kicked you out." What you can do is not pay, thereby forcing the landlord to collect the whole rent from the others, the landlord can't evict you as you are already out. The landlord may evict her if she does not pay the whole rent, but at this point you don't care.
