Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

Stepbrother is trying to take my boyfriend's mom's house. Served us (we live in her house, she is in a convalescent hospital) with an unlawful detainer that looks weird. It has handwriting on it and it's obvious something on it was whited out before photocopying. He says he served us a 3 day notice in May before we were there. There's more complicated issues behind it all but we just need to know what we can use to file an answer. His paperwork looks very unprofessional.

First, check out the status of the action. Once you are served with the Summons and Complaint, you only have 5 days to respond. There are several ways to respond, depending on variable such as how you were served, when you were served, what the Complaint says, what the 3-day notice said, why you were served with a 3-day notice to leave the house, even before you were there, and other factors. It's always harder to litigate against an amateur than an attorney, who knows what he is doing. If you file the correct paper, you have a chance at winning the case, without even going to trial. I strongly suggest that you consult with an attorney.
