Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

sublet drama

I continued paying because my friend was living there and at first I sympathized with her. I wanted to get a new tenant in there to take over my payments so I didn't have to make payments when I wasn't there. The landlord told me I should work it out with my roomates, which I tried and didn't work. But in email form he told me he would do it then contradicted himself by saying he wouldn't show the apartment/my room. My roommate added in an email that if I didn't pay the last couple of months rent she would take me to small claims court for not paying. I have been paying but I can't afford to anymore and I told them that but they won't do anything.

Re: sublet drama

Bad news!

You are obligated to pay, or your credit will take a major hit.

Landlord probably got some legal advice telling him that this was your problem, not his.

You are probably better off retaining an attorney to help you out of this mess, than to keep paying for this.

Do not let it go without doing something.
