Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

taxes on house owned by one person selling to another

How can i find out if the taxes on a house have been paid for in the last 2 years? My mother-in-laws owns the home but is selling it, with payments being made slowly to her and we just want to make sure the taxes have been paid. If not we want to evict the current tentants.

I have to guess at a lot of your questions, so if I am wrong, please resubmit.

As to taxes (I am far from a tax expert), I would go to the county Hall of Records. I believe these are available to the public, but, if not, they will tell you how to find out.

I am assuming that the current tenants are buying the house, and are also obligated to pay the taxes.

If not, please resubmit with clearer facts.

I would need to look at the contract of sale, or provisions of the lease agreement, before giving you advice on eviction.

It is probable that your mother-in-law will need the aid of an attorney to straighten out this mess.

Good luck to you and your mother-in-law!
