Legal Question in Legal Ethics in California

Legal rights for sale of other artist paintings.

If I have created a painting and sold it to another

person for the amount of $1000 and that person

then sells the painting for $2000. Am I entitled for

a percentage of this sale?

If yes, what is the percentage?

Re: Legal rights for sale of other artist paintings.

Unless you reserved some rights to the painting upon the first sale, you had no claim to anything once it was transferred to someone else. "Sale" implies that you relinquished all legal rights regarding the piece of propety, and what your buyer does with it is entirely his own business - despite the fact that you created it. General Motors created the Chevy they sold me, but if I can find someone who will give me more than I paid, should they be entitled to any of my profit?
