Position elimination

How much notice does an employer have to give an employee when their job is eliminated and is the person entitled to severance?

Generally no notice, and no severance. You can try to negotiate severance, however, based upon your longevity.

If there are public policy issues underlying your layoff -- such as discrimination or whistleblowing -- you should make an appointment with an employment lawyer.
