Legal Question in Legal Ethics in California

Professional ethics

I interviewed for a position and was verbally offered the job and verbally accepted. I reside in California and the job is located in Atlanta, GA. The company offered me a relocation package (verbally) as well.

Instead of an offer letter - I receive an email requesting me to remove marketing material from my current employer and Fed EX it to them!!

I need to know who I report this to? This is not only unethical but I hope illegal!

Please advise.

Re: Professional ethics

You have quite the dilemma on your hands. It is extremely unlikely that the police or other law enforcement would get involved, so only your employer have would legal standing to do anything. And you would have to tell your employer the circumstances of how this happened. You could end up without a job and without a job offer.

On the other hand, we are only talking about publicly available marketing materials and not trade secrets. However, I would be careful about taking that job and moving so far without better assurance that your position would be secure.

Re: Professional ethics

I would be very reluctant to work for a company that is unethical!
