Legal Question in Legal Ethics in California

rights about ability with the company

Ok... this is long. I have been empl. w/ this co. 5 yrs. In the last year and a 1/2, I have been home, and paid, due to the fact that the co. has been in court in bankruptcy. Now, they are choosing a select few. I may not be in that few. They have strung me along for this amt of time, granted, pd me full benefits, full salary and now have given me a project to work on, and I will to the best of my ability complete this, but whenever I ask a question of where this co. is going, no one has given me an answer. I have the title of vice pres. They told me I am not allowed to seek out other opportunities while employed with this co. It may appear that I may lose my position now, and do I have any recourse against this co? I want to add, that I am under a lot of stress, due to the fact that they have given me false hope about my future. Please advise ASAP.

Re: rights about ability with the company

your question is a little vague to answer in any detail. a lot depends on if you have a written contract and you dont say. unless you have a contract that forbids it there is no reason why you cannot discreetly look for another job.
