Legal Question in Legal Ethics in California

Subter

I was contacted by an LCSW because of my resume posted on hotjobs.com and invited me to interview for a job as a Mental Health Consultant. I was hired for a position I thought was as an employee but signed a packet of forms for hire as an ''Independent Contractor.'' I ended up being paid in an untimely fashion. My supervisor (same woman), was also in control of the manner I went about my work (doing preschool assessments). I was required to attend staff meetings. Once the classroom assessments were completed for the year, I was terminated. I had mentioned that I had been feeling depressed and had withheld my comments when I was finally fed up with being paid so far after the fact. I still turned in all necessary mechanics, just not my personal observations which I did not billed for that month. When I asked why I was terminated (by email) she did not reply. My final bill was a mere $90.00 when I did turn in the comments (time spent typing them up for her review) but she refused to pay me for this as she said she said she assumed it was included in my previous statement's bill. What should I do?
