Legal Question in Military Law in California

I am a ca. resident 26 years old. i was convicted of felony domestic violence when i was 18. it has been 8 years with no further incident. I want to join the military as well as regain my right to bare arms. i am aware of the lautenberg amendment which prohibits any one convicted of a Domestic violence charge from enlisting due to restriction place upon such person regarding arms and munitions.

my question is how to get around this? i am a good guy, i want to enlist and better myself and my country, what can i do? there has to be a provision right, something like a time limit that this amendment adheres to right? this is not a lifelong shackle is it?

please help me

thank you very much

josh

I hate to be the one to tell you this, but it's forever. Maybe a military recruiter will have some ideas.
