Legal Question in Personal Injury in California

In 1994 I took a no contest plea to a misdemeanor in Pittsburg, CA due to residing in another state, and claims were falsified, but I had no money to go to trial. I had no penalties from the "plea" and not even a probation officer to check in with. The DA's office signed off soon after to have the no contest plea changed to not guilty and the conviction was removed from records. 16 years later the woman whom made the claims is publicly telling everyone I was arrested (never happened in CA ever) and convicted without disclaiming the court removed the conviction. Her husband is local cop and is also telling people on public forums and in person the same thing. Can I sue them in civil court for slander?

Truth is a defense to defamation and unfortunately their version has some truth to it so you would not likely win a lawsuit against them given what little facts you offered.

Good luck.
