car injury

hello i was in a car accident i was rear ended this happened in march of 1999 i was sent to a chiropracter for my neck injury . i was in therapy for about 3-4 months, my attorny sent a claim to the insurance co as you can see its been awile since i finished my therapy.does it nomaly take this long for a case like mine to close? ive asked him about this he keeps telling just to be patient.in two months it will have been one year since the car accident.

No it is not normal to take this long. The statement "just be patient" would worry me. The Statute of Limitation is one year from the date of the accident. If the insurance company has not paid by now, then you must file a complaint within that one year, or you lose all rights to any claim.

I would send the attorney a letter asking for a status in writing. In the letter I would the attorney if the insurance company had been contacted and what was their response. If the attorney does not give you an adequate response within a reasonable time (no more than one week), I would consider hiring a different attorney to protect myself.

A lawsuit must be filed within one year. after that it can be litigated for as long as 5 years or could settle any time before that.
