Legal Question in Personal Injury in California

I left my husband last March. As a favor to his Mother, I won't file for divorce untill the end of June, so he can have badly needed medical insurance. A friend told me that I need to keep him on the car insurance, because if he gets in an accident without his own insurance, I can be held financially responsible untill the divorce is final. Is this true?

All your community assets can be reached to satisfy a judgment, until you are divorced. So you need to keep him insured one way or the other. In addition, once you file, there is an automatic restraining order on both parties against cancelling any insurance without prior court approval.
