Legal Question in Personal Injury in California

Liability Insurance Homeless Encampment Fire

We own vacant land where the homeless set up a camp. We have tried to have them removed, but they keep coming back. Last week they started a campfire. Along came a wind and the fire spread, catching 2 homes on fire. Do we have any liability for this? Unfortunately, we do not have any insurance on this piece of property. We had mowed the weeds, put in a 15' wide swath around the perimeter of the property, and also had installed No Trespassing signs.

It appears that you have done all that a reasonable person can and should do to make it known that there is to be no trespassing. Nevertheless, as people are wont to do, they choose to do their own thing, resulting in these unfortunate consequences. Please let me know if I may be of help if it comes down to a defense of a lawsuit.

You have a great defense, but you may need to be in litigation.

For the future, I would advise you to get insurance.
