Legal Question in Personal Injury in California

This past weekend me and my family went to basketball game for my son some gangs members beat up my husband and son no type of security or lighting outside almost beat them to death my only 14 years old things like that should not happen at school should have enough security just not right can we sue the school so this never happen again.
